Portobello Mad March Meet

This year’s mad march meet was held rather bizarrely on the 2nd & 3rd April at Prestonpans. The club was represented by swimmers from all 4 competitive squads throughout the 2 days and all performed extremely well.

In the very first event, 25m breaststroke for 8 year old boy, Lewis Thomson narrowly missed out on a medal when he finished 4th. Read more of this post

East District Age Group Championships

East District Age Group Championships

Finals Weekend

The finals of the 100m events from this year’s East District Age Group Championships were held at Glenrothes on 19th/20th March 2011.

Due to illness Midlothian had a small team competing, however those who did, performed extremely well. First to swim were Kimberley MacKay and Beth Denholm in the 12/13 years 100m freestyle. Both girls reduced their personal best times significantly and despite being younger than most of the other girls, Kimberley reached the final where she finished 6th reducing her time further in the process.

In the youngest age group, Read more of this post

Lothian Region Graded Meet

This meet was held at Prestonpans on 13th November and a team of 24 swimmers represented the club.

Hebe Ramsay got us off to a great start in the first event, the 100m IM claiming the Gold medal after a great personal best swim. Lauren Sutherland and Andrew Denholm also recorded personal bests in this event.

Prentice Robertson then matched Hebe’s success with Gold and a personal best in the 100m Breaststroke in the older boys age group.

Congratulations Sean

You will probably all have watched the swimming events during the recent Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Midlothian Swimming Club was represented at the Games by Sean Fraser, who many members may not know. Sean is an ex Midlothian swimmer and  a life member of the club.

He competed in 2 events for elite athletes with disability, reaching the final of the 50m freestyle and in his stronger event, the 100m freestyle he had a fantastic swim to win silver in a new British record time.

Sean is now based in Manchester but will be returning home soon and we hope that he will visit some of our sessions along with his medal.

Well done Sean, a magnificent achievement.

Eyemouth Mighty Minnows Meet

On 18th September 2010, a group of our youngest swimmers made the trip to Eyemouth to compete in this meet for the first time.

Poolside space was minimal as swimmers from 11 clubs, including two who had travelled from the north of England congregated on the packed poolside. Undeterred by this our swimmers got on with the job and produced some excellent results.

First to compete was Natalie Ramsay who finished 4th in the 9 years old butterfly event. In the older boy’s event, Andrew Denholm claimed the silver with Andrew, Lewis Barrow, Iain Doyle and Alasdair Iredale all recording very good personal best swims.

The next event was breaststroke where Andrew again won silver and his younger sister Cara finished fourth, both in personal best times. Also in this event there were PBs for Euan Edmiston, Natalie Ramsay, Lewis Muego, Logan Wright, Katie Skilbeck, Alasdair Iredale and Lewis Barrow.

The good performances continued into the backstroke where there were 4th place medals for Andrew and Natalie supplemented with good PBs for Euan, Logan, Alasdair and Anna MacKay.

The final individual event saw Cara claim the bronze medal in the freestyle and PBs for Euan, Natalie, Lewis Muego, Katie and Alasdair.

The final event of the day probably turned out to be the most exciting and produced a very close finish. The cannon relay featuring one boy and one girl from each age group was a hard fought affair with little separating the hosts and our team of Cara, Euan, Logan, Natalie, Andrew and Anna. In the end, we won the Gold medal with all six swimming magnificently.
