Youngsters from Midlothian swimming club were competing at the Lothian Junior Graded Meet held at Prestonpans on Sunday 29th January. The highlights included a winning performance from Calum Murray in the boys 10 & under 50 metre freestyle event with a fifteenth place going to Jonah Turnbull. The 50 meter backstroke swim saw another gold for Calum Murray with Jonah Turnbull settling for fourth spot. Jonah Turnbull also achieved fourth place with his 50 metre butterfly swim while the 50 metre breaststroke event saw a ninth place finish for him with teammate Calum Murray finishing in fifteenth spot. There was also gold medal performance for Jamie Golder in the boys 12 & over 200 metre individual medley with Adam Smith finishing well in fifth place. The 100 meter freestyle event saw another podium finish and second place for Jamie Golder with third place for Adam Smith and ninth place being reserved for teammate Leo Marshall.
In the girls 10 & under category Isla Stokes won the 50 metre butterfly event with a ninth placing for Katy Barron. Isla Stokes also finished in sixth place with her 50 metre freestyle swim with Katy Barron finishing in fourteenth place. Katy Barron also made twenty-third place with her 50 metre breaststroke swim with thirty-sixth place going to Isla Stokes in the same event. The 50 meter backstroke event saw a ninth place for Isla Stokes and a eighteenth place finish for Katy Barron.
A tremendous swim from Colin Doyle saw him finish in second place with Muir Simpson finishing in seventh spot in the 12 year old boys 100 metre freestyle. While in the 100 metre backstroke event, there was a ninth placing for Muir Simpson and twelfth place finish for his 100 metre individual medley swim. Colin Doyle also finished in fourth place with his 100 metre butterfly swim going one better to finish in third place with his 100 metre breaststroke, an event which also saw an eleventh place finish for Muir Simpson.
Freddie Parker finished in third place with his swim in the boys 11 year olds 100 metre backstroke event, and in fifth place with his 100 metre freestyle swim, also finishing in eighth place with his 100 metre individual medley and ninth place with his 100 metre breaststroke swim.
In the 11 year old girls category, Molly Hall finished in twenty third place with her 100 metre backstroke and 100 metre freestyle swims, achieving twenty first place with her 100 metre individual medley swim and seventeenth spot with her 100 metre butterfly swim
In the girls 13 & over category, Abigail McAllister achieved second place with her 200 metre individual medley swim and a fourth spot with her 100 metre backstroke swim with teammates Charlotte Scott and Cerys Pritchard finishing well in eighth and tenth places respectively. The same event for the boys saw Leo Marshall finish in fifth place, he also achieved the same placing with his 100 meter butterfly swim. The girls 200 metre individual medley swim also saw an eighth place finish for Cerys Pritchard and a seventeenth place for Amy Sewell. The 100 metre butterfly event saw Charlotte Scott achieve a well deserved sixth place while in the 100 metre freestyle there was a fourth and fifth place finish for Abigail and Charlotte respectively. The girls 13 & over 100 metre breaststroke event saw a seventh placing for Charlotte Scott and a ninth place finish for Cerys Pritchard. The same event for the boys saw a sixth, seventh and eighth places for Adam Smith, Jamie Golder and Leo Marshall. Cerys Pritchard also achieved a seventh place finish with her 100 metre freestyle swim. While in the girls 12 year olds category, Amy Sewell finished in sixth place with her 100 metre freestyle and 100 metre breaststroke swims.
