The first round of the East District Age Group Championships was held at the Michael Woods Centre – Glenrothes on Saturday and Sunday 26-27th November. This prestigious event saw swimmers from Midlothian competing against other top swimmers from the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association east region.
The East District Age Group Championships are held in three stages, the first weekend is this event in November and second is held in January 2017 and the “Finals” weekend held at at The Royal Commonwealth Pool, Edinburgh in February 2017. This final meet sees the fastest swimmers in each event compete to be crowned East District Age Group Champion.
Head coach Colin Barton was delighted with the youngsters efforts, saying “they demonstrated their versatility, and coped extremely well with the switch to the longer distance events.”
Eilidh Redpath won the girls 15 year olds 400 metre individual medley with a time of 5:03.87 with club captain, Beth McFarlane also competing in the girls 17 senior 400 metre Individual medley.
While Eilidh Redpath won the girls 15 year olds 800 metre freestyle and Jodie Finlay finished in eleventh spot in the same event. In the girls 14 year olds 800 metre freestyle, Ria Colbridge finished in eighth place in good style
In the boys 13 year olds 400 metre freestyle event, Fraser Burgess finished well in sixteenth spot.
While in the older boys 14 year olds 400 metre freestyle, Jamie Ferguson finished in eighth place with Lewis Thomson not too far behind in fourteenth place. The1500 metre freestyle in the same age category saw a ninth placing for Jamie Ferguson in a time of 18:51.60 and a tenth place for Lewis Thomson in a time of 18:57.87.
Fraser Wilson won the boys 15 year olds 400 metre freestyle, an event which also saw Euan Edmiston finish in twelfth place. Fraser Wilson also finished in third place in the 1500 metre freestyle in a time of 17:29.96 with teammate Euan Edmiston finishing in seventh place in a time of 18:26.29
On Sunday it was another win for Fraser Wilson in the boys 15 year olds 400 metre individual medley and second place for him in the boys 800 metre freestyle, with Euan Edmiston finishing in sixteenth place for his 400 metre individual medley swim.
The girls 15 year olds 400 metre freestyle event saw another winning performance by Eilidh Redpath to win gold, with Jodie Finlay finishing in sixteenth place with her swim.
Ria Colbridge finished well in tenth place in the girls 14 year olds 400 metre freestyle event.
Jamie Ferguson finished in seventh place in the boys 14 year olds 800 metre freestyle and a ninth placing for teammate Lewis Thomson for his swim in the same event. While Jamie Ferguson saw an eleventh place finish with his 400 metre individual medley swim.
In the relays the mixed 13-14 200 metre medley relay team achieved fifth place, while the mixed 15-16 200 metre medley relay team went one better to finish fourth.
The relays saw great team performances with a sixth place finish for midlothian A in the mixed 13-14 200 metre freestyle relay and a 4th placing in the mixed 15-16 200 metre freestyle relay.
