Scottish Summer Meet – July 2016

A small contingent of six Midlothian swimmers, headed north to the Aberdeen aquatics centre this month to compete in the prestigious Scottish summer meet. This competition provides a tough competitive challenge ahead of the British summer meet held in Sheffield 26–31 July. Head coach, Colin Barton was pleased to see the youngsters ” managing to maintain high standards, as they continue to produce some impressive results, despite this competition coming at the end of a long hard season”

Katie Golder won the girls 16 year old 200 metre individual medley event in a time of 2:30.6, also claiming gold in the 50 metre backstroke. While finishing in third place with her 200 metre backstroke swim and in fifth with the 400 metre freestyle.

Club captain Beth McFarlane was swimming in the girls 17-18 year old category, where she finished in second place in the 100 metre and 200 metre breaststroke finals and third place in the 50 metre breaststroke with a time of 34.77.

In the girls 14 year old category, Eilidh Redapth won the 200 metre and 400 metre individual medley events. While finishing in silver medal position with her 100 metre butterfly swim and third place in her 50 metre and 400 meter freestyle events. Also claiming fourth place in the 100 metre freestyle swim, with a time 1:02.66 and achieving seventh and eighth places finishes with her 200 meter butterfly and 200 meter freestyle swims.

Jamie Ferguson finished in third place in the 200 backstroke final in the boys 12-13 year old category. He also finished in eighth place in the 100 metre backstroke final and in eleventh spot with his 200 meter butterfly swim.

In the same age category, Lewis Thomson, achieved a fifth place for his 200 meter breaststroke and a seventh placing in the 50 metre breaststroke event. Also finishing in ninth position with his 100 metre breaststroke swim.

Fraser Wilson was competing in the boys 14 year old category where he won gold in the 200 meter backstroke, 100 meter freestyle and 200 metre individual medley events. He also finished in silver medal position with his 200 meter freestyle swim.
