Our swimmers were in action over the weekend (14-15th February) competing at Scottish Amateur Swimming Association, East District Challenge meet in Bathgate. Swimmers were competing in five age bands: 10/11/12 years, 13 years, 14 years, 15 years and 16 years and over. As a further “Challenge” incentive, a financial prize of £25 was offered. This cash is given to swimmers who equalled or bettered the time achieved by the slowest finalist of this years, East District Age Group Championships competition, an event which was held earlier this year. Two of our swimmers, Jamie Ferguson and Euan Edmiston were overjoyed to have their swims rewarded by a monetary bonus, in the 1500 meter freestyle event. Jamie achieved fourth place, ahead of Euan who finished in fifth place.

All our swimmers were on blistering form and our Head coach Colin Barton, “was delighted to see some of the swimmers who do not regularly feature in top placings being rewarded for their endeavour and commitment with some excellent swims over the weekend.”
Amongst them were Ria Colbridge, who achieved fastest time in 11 year old female category for 400 freestyle, also managing to come in top place in the 200 Individual medley event. Evie Cuthbert, produced the quickest time for 12 year old female in the 100 butterfly, whilst Ellie Brown was the fastest 12 year old female, in the 100 freestyle also making second place in 100 backstroke. Thirteen year old, Sammie Paterson, had a great weekend of competition, finishing in first place in 100 butterfly, and 200, 400, 800 freestyle events. However not content with this, she also achieved top spot in 100 breaststroke. Amber Roe was placed as second fastest 13 year old female in the 400 freestyle event whilst Megan Berston was fastest 13 year old female in both 100 breaststroke and 800 freestyle.
Not to be outshone by the girls performances, Lewis Shillinglaw was fastest 16 year old in 100 and 200 freestyle events. Congratulations to all competitors.
