Midlothian Swimming Club

Haddington 100s Meet 2013

This meet took place in Prestonpans on 15th September and involved swimmers from Gold, Silver and Bronze squads
The first event was the 100m backstroke which turned out to be a very good event for us in terms of personal best swims. There were very significant improvements for Lauren Sutherland, Katie Golder, Katy Needham, Eve Thomson, Ria Colbridge, Eilidh Redpath, Iain Doyle, Fraser Wilson and Lewis Thomson. Perhaps the most outstanding swim was from Fraser, who reduced his time by almost 11 seconds, breaking the meet record and smashing our club record in the process. This swim also earned Fraser the Gold medal with Bronze medals going to Lauren, Katie, Eve and Lewis.

Three Midlothian swimmers contested the open 400m freestyle event with Anna MacKay and Eve Thomson reducing their time significantly.

Although being outside his best in the 100m breaststroke, Lewis Thomson comfortably won Gold in his age group. Swimming against world ranked Hannah Miley in the open age group, Lauren Sutherland and Beth McFarlane had to settle for silver and bronze respectfully and there was also a silver medal for Anna MacKay after she reduced her time by 5 seconds and a bronze for Eilidh Redpath. In this event there were good PBs from Nick Rietvelt Sam Paterson and Euan Edmiston.

In the final event of the session, Iain Doyle sliced over 3 seconds from his 400m freestyle time.

The afternoon session kicked off with the 100m butterfly and there were some very close finishes. Eve Thomson won Gold in a very close race and Beth McFarlane saw the other side when she had to settle for silver after just being squeezed out of first place.
Ann MacKay produced a fantastic personal best swim to win bronze and there were also personal best swims from Katie Golder, Laura Halliday, Evie Cuthbert, Tom Rietvelt and Fraser Wilson by a huge 12 seconds.

Despite swimming the 400m IM for the first time, Lauren Sutherland swam extremely well in finishing second and coming agonisingly close to the club record.

That honour did not elude Lewis Thomson in the 100m freestyle however as he broke one of the longest standing records on the books.
The medals in this event went to Eve Thomson who won Gold, Fraser Wilson who won silver and Eilidh Redpath who won Bronze all of whom bettered their times along with Tom Rietvelt, Euan Edmiston, Anna MacKay, Katie Golder, Sam Paterson and Ria Colbridge
