Midlothian Swimming Club

Lauren is National Champion

Scottish Schools Championships

This year’s championships were held at East Kilbride on 26th January 2013 with 4 Midlothian swimmers qualifying from the heats to represent their schools.

In the first session, Lauren Sutherland felt under a bit of pressure having qualified as fastest in the 200m breaststroke. In the early stages she was pressed by 2 other swimmers but eventually pulled away to take the title comfortably.

Lauren was in action again in the afternoon in the shorter breaststroke event where she was joined by Beth McFarlane. Although neither of the girls were at their best, Lauren added silver to the Gold she won earlier in the day and Beth claimed the Bronze.

Also in action in this session, was Kimberley MacKay who very narrowly missed out on a medal in very close 200m freestyle.

In the final session, Kimberley suffered again in the 100m freestyle where she was yet again involved in a close race but was squeezed out of the medals.

However, Fiona Inglis, competing for the last time in these championships, held her nerve and her ranking place to take bronze in the older girls 100m freestyle event.
