This year’s meet was held at Prestonpans on 7th May 2011 and a team of swimmers from Gold, Silver and Bronze squads took part.

The first event featured our younger swimmers in the 50m butterfly and saw Andrew Denholm qualify fastest for the final where he swan even faster to claim the Gold Medal. In the corresponding girl’s event, Megan Bain swam a good heat to reduce her time by 2 seconds.

In the girls 12/13 years, 100m backstroke, Hebe Ramsay produced a great swim to qualify for the final, knocking 4 seconds off her personal best. There were also PBs for Beth Denholm, Lauren Sutherland, Beth McFarlane, Caitlin Wright, Amy Sylvester, Eilidh Edminston and Vaila Robertson. In the final, Hebe swam slightly slower but still managed to win bronze.

Next, Beth Gray cruised into the final of the older girls 100m butterfly where she produced a storming finish to claim the Gold.

In the youngest age group, Andrew Denholm reached his second final where he finished 4th. In the same event there were PBs for Lewis Barrow, Logan Wright, Anna MacKay and Megan Bain.

Nathan Avinou and Beth McFarlane qualified for their respective 100m butterfly events where they finished second and third respectfully.

After qualifying for the 100m backstroke final, Beth Gray again finished strongly, however could not quite catch the leader and won silver.

Session 2 got off to a good start when Andrew Denholm reached his third final in the 50m freestyle. Although being younger than the majority of the other finalist, Andrew swam really well to finish in the silver medal position. In the same event, Logan Wright, Lewis Barrow, Anna MacKay and Megan Bain recorded personal best swims.

The 100m breaststroke proved to be a good event with no fewer than 6 finalists. Lauren Sutherland won Gold, Nathan Avinou and Prentice Robertson won Silver, Amy Sylvester and Nikki Pettitt just missed out on medals finishing 4th and Sarah Eunson finished 6th.

Not to be outdone the younger swimmers also did really well in their breaststroke event. Both Andrew Denholm and Megan Bain won silver with good personal best swims.

The final individual event of the day was the 100m freestyle where we had 7 more finalists. Prentice Robertson produced a great swim to win Gold, Beth Denholm and Beth Gray won Bronze, Sarah Eunson finished 4th, Hebe Ramsay 5th and there were 6th places for Amy Sylvester and Nikki Pettitt in their respective events. Also in this event, Eilidh Edminston, Niamh Innes and Zoe Hutchison swam really well to record good PBs.

The meet finished with the relay events which proved to be very close. The boy’s team of Andrew Denholm, Logan Wright, Nathan Avinou and Prentice Robertson held off a strong challenge from the host team to win the Gold.

The girl’s team of Megan Bain, Anna MacKay, Beth Denholm and Beth Gray swam well but this time they were beaten by the host team and had to be content with silver.
