This meet was held at Prestonpans on 13th November and a team of 24 swimmers represented the club.
Hebe Ramsay got us off to a great start in the first event, the 100m IM claiming the Gold medal after a great personal best swim. Lauren Sutherland and Andrew Denholm also recorded personal bests in this event.
Prentice Robertson then matched Hebe’s success with Gold and a personal best in the 100m Breaststroke in the older boys age group.
There were personal best swims from Vaila Robertson, Megan Bain and Logan Wright in the 11 years and under 50m butterfly event and for Caitlin Wright and Catriona Sergeant in the 12 years 100m backstroke.
Amy Sylvester, Nikki Pettit, Zoe Hutchison and Nathan Avinou all reached the final of the 13 years 100m breaststroke, however fell a little short of winning medals although Zoe did record a very good personal best.
This was followed by Prentice winning his second Gold of the day in the 100m backstroke in a very good time.
In the shorter event Bryony Eunson also won Gold and Andrew Denholm silver. Beth McFarlane continued her recent good form in this event, smashing the time limit. In addition there were personal best swims from Megan Bain, Iain Doyle and Euan Edmiston in this event.
The final event of the morning session was the 12 years 100m freestyle where Caitlin Wright and Elidh Edmiston secured personal bests with Caitlin reaching the final.
The afternoon session got of to a great start when Jenny Jubb and Beth Gray won gold and silver respectfully in the 200m IM, both in personal best times. Prentice Robertson, recorded a time, which would have secured his third Gold of the day, unfortunately he was disqualified for a faulty turn.
In the 50 breaststroke, Andrew Denholm won his second silver and Lauren Sutherland broke the time limit with an excellent swim. There was also a personal best swim in this event from Megan Bain.
Hebe Ramsay then won her second Gold of the day in the final of the 50m butterfly, with Caitlin Wright smashing her personal best time.
Sarah Eunson and Amy Sylvester contested the final of the 100m backstroke with Sarah claiming Silver.
The 50m freestyle in the youngest age group was very successful for Midlothian swimmers. Andrew Denholm and Bryony Eunson won silver. Beth McFarlane and Logan Wright finished 4th and Lewis Barrow 5th in their
respective finals. Personal bests were recorded by Bryony, Beth, Logan and Lewis in addition to Megan Bain, and Euan Edmiston.
In the 12 years 100m breaststroke there were personal best swims from Hebe Ramsay who reached the final, Eilidh Edmiston and Niamh Innes.
Nathan Avinou who had qualified fastest for the 100m butterfly then swam a great race to claim the Gold medal with a 2 second personal best. Nathan’s achievement was made more remarkable as he had only recently returned to training after undergoing emergency surgery and as a result his fitness was not as good as it could have been.
The final event of the day, the 14 years and over 100m freestyle, saw probably the closest finish of the day. When the dust had settled Midlothian swimmers came out first and second. Beth Gray produced a storming last 25m to win Gold from Jenny Jubb in the silver medal position.
In total, Midlothian swimmers won 8 Gold, 7 silver medals and 2 speeding medals. There were 30 top 6 finishes and 36 personal best swims.
