The latest round of this years championships were held at Glenrothes on 6th & 7th February 2010 and our swimmers really performed well throughout the weekend.

Michael’s time was good enough to allow him to reach the qualifying final where he was joined by Calum Archibald. In the final Calum finished 4th and Michael a very close 5th after further reducing his time.
Robbie Dalgetty had a good swim in the 14/15 years 200m IM reducing his time by 5 seconds in finishing 7th.
The first session was bought to a close with the girls 800m freestyle. Despite being inexperienced in this event, Jo Pettitt and Lindsay Sinclair, both set good personal bests.

In the 200m IM for 14/15 years girls, there were PBs for Jo Pettitt, Amy Flynn, Fiona Inglis, Jenny Jubb, Jenny Kerr, and Heather Duncan.
The final event in this session was the 1500m freestyle. Robbie Dalgetty was forced to swim in a heat where he was well out in front for the whole race but undeterred he produced a very disciplined swim to claim the silver medal and set a new club record.
If the first day was good, the second day was fantastic with every swim featuring a Midlothian swimmer resulting in a personal best.
In the morning, PBs for Chris Kerr in the 200m IM, Sarah Eunson, Prentice Robertson, Michael Flynn, Jack Bisset, Lindsay Sinclair, Fiona Inglis, Amy Flynn, Beth Gray, Helen Cassidy and Jo Pettitt in the 100m backstroke contributed to a great start to the day.
Chris’s swim was a new club record and Lindsay and Jack qualified for their respective qualifying finals. Both reduced their times further in the final with Jack finishing second and Lindsay 4th.
In the afternoon, Lauren Sutherland continued the good form in backstroke producing our 11th personal best in the 100m event.
In the 200m IM for 12/13 years, Michael Flynn knocked an impressive 10 seconds off his time to record another club record and in the same event Calum Archibald and Prentice Robertson also produced good PBs.
In the corresponding event for older girls, Laura Gray swam a very gutsy race reducing her time by 3 seconds.
The final event of the weekend was the 800m freestyle, which featured Robbie Dalgetty. Robbie was under pressure from his rivals throughout the race but maintained his form and claimed his second silver of the weekend and his third overall in these championships. His time was a huge personal best and another club record.
We now look forward to the March finals for the relays and 100m events, which is the climax of the championships.
The number of swimmers from the club who have qualified for these finals has surpassed previous years’ totals so there will be plenty of interest over the weekend.
