Club swimmers have had some amazing results over the summer – congratulations to all!
Scottish Swimming National Squad Program
Congratulations to the following swimmers, who have been selected for the bronze squad under this Program. Swimmers will attend 3 one day training camps run by one of Scotland’s top coaches. The days will comprise sessions in the pool, on land and also education in relation to meet preparation, diet etc. Although swimmers from the club have been selected in the past, this is by far the highest number of swimmers we have ever had selected.
ASA British Youth Championships
Congratulations to Chris Kerr who attained a qualifying time for these championships which allowed him to compete in Sheffield at the end of July. Chris performed really well in the 100m breaststroke event reducing his personal best by just less than 1 second and setting a new club record in the process.
It should also be noted that Lisa Fraser also attained a qualifying time for the 200m backstroke, unfortunately this came just days after the closing date for entries.
Scottish Open Championships
The championships this year formed the second of only 2 opportunities for swimmers to qualify for the British Team competing in the World Championships in Rome. As a result the vast majority of the top swimmers from all over the country were in attendance and the standard was extremely high.
Six Midlothian swimmers qualified to take part in the meet held at Tollcross, Glasgow at the end of June and they all performed really well setting 5 club records. Lisa Fraser reduced both the 100m and 200m senior backstroke records. Chris Kerr set a new record in the senior 50m breaststroke and Lindsay Sinclair reduced a long standing senior 100m freestyle record. The junior girl’s 4 x 100m freestyle team of Nicola Thorburn, Jo Pettitt, Lisa Fraser and Lindsay Sinclair smashed the club record by 7 seconds.
The other swimmer involved was Robbie Dalgetty who swam slightly outside his best in the 200m backstroke, but had done really well to qualify.
