These championships were held on 6th & 7th June and were the last to be held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool before it closes for major refurbishment later this month.
Midlothian were represented by 14 swimmers who had attained qualifying times and the most notable results are detailed below:
In the women’s 200m freestyle, Lindsay Sinclair and Nicola Thorburn moved up 5 and 6 ranking places respectfully.
The next event saw Chris Kerr qualify as 6th fastest for the final where an improvement on his time resulted in a 5th place finish and a new club record.
Laura Gray had her best swim for some time in the 200m I.M. which was enough for her to improve her ranking by 7 places.
Lisa Fraser qualified 4th fastest in the 50m backstroke but despite improving further in the final she slipped back 2 places finishing 6th.
In the 50m freestyle, Lindsay Sinclair started the day ranked 24th, she qualified as 6th fastest for the final and then produced a fantastic swim to become the Junior District Open champion, claim bronze in the open event and a club record for good measure.
There were also good swims in this event from Fiona Inglis and Nicola Thorburn who recorded PBs.
Chris Kerr then eased into the final of the 200m breaststroke where he just missed out on a medal finishing 4th.
Lisa Fraser followed this with a 2nd place in the 14 years 200m IM breaking the club record in the process.
The second session was brought to a close with Nicola Thorburn performing well to reach the final of the 200m backstroke where she finished 7th.
The Sunday morning session started well and saw Chris Kerr in the final of the 100m breaststroke. He swam a storming first 50m which set him up to become our second junior champion of the meet, taking the open bronze medal in the process.
Robbie Dalgetty qualified for the 200m backstroke final where he finished 8th , then Lisa Fraser won the corresponding 14 years event in a new club record time.
In the 11 years 200m freestyle, Michael Flynn finished 5th with a good personal best swim.
The final session was kicked with a good PB from Robbie Dalgetty in the 50m backstroke. Lindsay Sinclair was ranked 20th in the 100m freestyle but she eased into the final where she produced personal best to finish 5th .
Chris Kerr just missed the final of the 200m IM finishing 9th, moving up 10 ranking places.
The final event involving Midlothian swimmers was the 11 -14 years 200m freestyle.
Beth Denholm swam a very good PB in the 11 years age group, despite being out injured for a number of weeks recently. This was followed by great swims from Jo Pettitt and Lisa Fraser who finished 2nd & 3rd respectfully in the 14 years age group, both recording personal bests with Jo setting a new club record.
